The Coromandel

Whitianga is located on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, in New Zealand’s North Island.

With its beautiful forests and coastline, fine sandy beaches, stunning views and proximity to Auckland 2.5 hours from Auckland International Airport) the Coromandel has become a mecca for holiday makers and ecotourists. Here’s an overview of what you can see and do in Whitianga and the surrounding area.

Take the 5 minute ferry trip to Ferry Landing to enjoy Front Beach, Flaxmill Bay, Shakespeare Cliff & lookout — the historic site where Captain Cook met the Maori in 1769 — and tramp the Maramaratotara Track.

Beaches – Whitianga is surrounded by beautiful white sandy beaches including Buffalo Beach, Hahei, Cathedral Cove, Cooks Beach, Kuaotunu, and the famous Hot Water Beach (yes, we will lend you a spade!).
